Big Broadland Litter Pick

Broadland District Council’s annual Big Litter Pick is now open, this year giving ten participating groups the chance to receive £250 each to reinvest in their community.
Community groups, schools and businesses are invited to take part between 19 February and 31 May, joining together to improve the local environment and be in with a chance of winning the funding.
All registered groups not successful in the prize draw will receive £50 for playing their part in keeping Broadland’s streets, parks, footpaths and green spaces clean, safe and welcoming for everyone.
Broadland District Council’s Cabinet Member for Environmental Excellence, Cllr Jan Davis, said:
“The Big Litter Pick is a fantastic way for people to get involved and make a visible difference to the places they care about. Even a small amount of time spent picking up litter can have a big impact on how our towns and villages look and feel. We’re extremely grateful to everyone who takes part and we hope to see even more groups join us this year.”
The Big Litter Pick aims to bring communities together, encourage pride in local areas and protect wildlife by reducing litter and waste. Participating groups can borrow equipment from the Council, including litter pickers, bags and hi‑vis vests, to help them carry out their clean‑ups safely.
Groups can choose any location that matters to them, such as a village centre, play area, footpath or local green space, and organise their event at a time that suits them. Groups can contact the Council to arrange collection of rubbish for when they have completed their litter pick.
Last year, hundreds of volunteers took part across Broadland, collecting nearly 3 tonnes of litter and helping to create cleaner, safer neighbourhoods. The Council hopes to inspire even more people to get involved this year.
Residents, schools, charities, sports clubs and businesses are all invited to register their interest.
