Due to the warm weather forecast, bin collections across South Norfolk will start earlier than usual this week. Please leave your bins out by 6am on your normal collection day. This temporary change will remain in place for the rest of the week.

Essex & Suffolk Waters, Suffolk Water Recycling, Transfer and Storage (SWRTS) Project

Status: Pre-Application

The SWRTS Project is made up of two key elements, the development of a new Advanced Water Recycling Plant, capable of producing 11 million litres per day of purified recycled water, and strategic network enhancements that will support a more reliable and resilient water supply for the region.

Water recycling as a new sustainable and safe water resource for Suffolk.

  • The location for the proposed Advanced Water Recycling Plant (AWRP) close to Lowestoft
  • The locations for the two proposed service reservoirs (Lodgewood and Eye)

The corridor for the proposed pipelines needed to transfer water between:

  • Lowestoft Water Recycling Plant to the proposed AWRP.
  • The AWRP to the River Waveney.
  • The Ship Meadow abstraction point to Barsham Water Treatment Works, then on to Saxmundham Water Tower and Sizewell C.

Pre application consultations

The SWRTS Winter 2025 Consultation Monday 27th October 2025 ran for 6 weeks, ending on Wednesday 17th December 2025

The consultation on the Project launched on Monday 27th October 2025. The aim of this Phase One consultation is to present early-stage proposals and receive feedback from the community to help identify and understand any local impacts. The Phase One consultation ran between 21st October to 5th December 2025.
