Record numbers join Broadland's Big Litter Pick

Broadland District Council's Big Litter Pick 2026 ran from Feb to May and saw a record-breaking 807 volunteers from 36 local groups, schools, clubs and associations take part, collecting around 350 bags of litter – the equivalent of approximately 2.5 tonnes of waste.

Councillor Jan Davis, Broadland District Council's Cabinet Member for Environmental Excellence, said:

It is fantastic to see so many people taking part in this year's Big Litter Pick. The record number of volunteers demonstrates the pride our communities have in where they live and their commitment to helping keep Broadland clean and welcoming for everyone.”

Now in its fourth year, the scheme continues to grow in popularity, bringing communities together to tackle litter while helping to improve local neighbourhoods and green spaces. To reward those taking part, all registered groups were entered into a prize draw to share a £4,000 community fund. Ten lucky groups each received £250, while all remaining participating groups were awarded a £50 voucher to support their organisation, charity or local community project.

Cllr Davis added:

I'd like to thank every volunteer who gave up their time to take part. Together they collected an incredible amount of litter, making a real difference to our towns, villages and open spaces. Congratulations to all the prize winners and I hope the funding helps support even more great community activity in the future."

The Council provided litter picking equipment and guidance to participating groups, as well as collecting the bags of rubbish after each event.

• Old Catton Rangers

• Horsford CofE VA Primary School Eco Team

• 1st Salhouse Brownies

• Kirby Nuggets

• 2nd Brundall Brownies

• Salhouse Parish Council
