Broadland: £1,000 grants available to boost green future
As part of Broadland District Council’s ongoing commitment to protecting and preserving the environment, the Council has launched a new Landowner tree planting grant.
This enables farmers, SMEs and other private landowners to apply for a grant of up to £1,000 to use plant trees and hedges on their land, which will have wide reaching benefits for the environment and encourage greater wellbeing for our residents.
The Council is encouraging applicants to work with their local communities, parish councils and tree wardens to develop their plans. As well as carbon sequestration and supporting biodiversity, the Council is also open to proposals that will enhance the environment for local residents for years to come.
Cllr Judy Leggett, Porfolio Holder for the Environment, said:
“I am delighted that we are able to encourage and enable tree planning across our beautiful district through this new project. Tree planting is an important commitment laid out in our Environmental Strategy as there are huge benefits to planting trees, such as absorbing carbon dioxide and reducing air pollution, increasing biodiversity and improving soil quality.”
This latest scheme follows in the footsteps of Broadland’s Community Tree Planting grants, which launched in December 2021. These grants have been increased to £1,000 and are available to parish/town councils or community groups for this planting season, which runs from November 2022 to March 2023.
Cllr Leggett said:
“We are happy to provide advice to recipients of these grants, including on planting and aftercare plans. Please do get in touch if you’re interested in this grant and you’d like to have a chat about any planting ideas you may have to help create and improve your community spaces – we’d love to see how we can help.”
Broadland District Council recently pledged to be Net Zero by the end of this decade, 20 years ahead of the government’s national target for the UK, and planting trees is one of the many ways the Council is striving to offset any remaining emissions.
