About wheelchair accessible vehicles
Private hire vehicles identified by us as being wheelchair accessible must comply with the requirements of Section 165 of the Equality Act 2010. These legal requirements include:
- being capable of carrying you whilst in your wheelchair
- drivers must provide mobility assistance to you as reasonably required
- drivers and operators are not allowed to make an additional charge for carrying you in your wheelchair
The Equality Act 2010 allows for exemptions from the above duties if the driver's physical condition makes it impossible or unreasonably difficult for him or her to comply with them.
