Protected trees

Check if a tree is protected

Before you or anyone else carries out works on a tree it is important to check if it is protected by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO). Trees are also protected if they are within a conservation area.

You will need to apply to reshape any tree that is protected. Work to trees may also be restricted by conditions on a planning permission.

If there are many trees to be felled and they are not part of a garden, then you may need a Felling Licence issued by the Forestry Commission.

If you would like to check if a tree or woodland is protected by a Tree Preservation Order or is within a conservation area then please use the map below.

For full details of Tree Preservation Orders (TPO) you can use our planning pages to search by the TPO reference, or if using the map tab, please ensure the filter is set to "all time"

Alternatively contact us on 01603 430509 or 01508 533780.
