Brownfield Register

All local planning authorities in England are required to produce and publish a register of previously developed land, generally termed “brownfield land”, that is regarded as being appropriate for residential development.

The registers are to be in two parts: Part 1 to include sites that have been assessed as being appropriate for residential development, such as sites with planning permission or allocations in local plans; and Part 2 to be those sites in Part 1 that are regarded as being suitable for the grant of planning permission in principle for residential development. The register is to be updated at least once a year. Currently, the registers only contains sites in Part 1.
