Update your toybox at our half term reuse event!

Two recycling officers at a reuse event with tables of books, toys, electricals and textiles

Broadland District Council and Veolia, Broadland's recycling, waste collections and street cleansing partner, are holding a free community reuse event to promote sustainability, reduce waste, and support families across the district.

The event will take place on Monday 16 February at Stimpson’s Piece Pavilion, and local residents are invited to bring along unwanted, pre-loved or outgrown toys, books, games, textiles and small electricals to swap with others.

Families are encouraged to come along to the event to explore the swap zones, with items separated into baby and toddler games, board games, building toys, toys for older children, textiles and electrical items. Here, residents can pick out items they’ll love, allowing them to update their children’s toyboxes in a sustainable, environmentally friendly way. The event will take place on Monday 16 February at Stimpson's Piece Pavilion between 12pm and 2:30pm:

  • Between 12pm and 2:30pm: residents can bring unwanted items
  • From 1pm until 2.30pm: residents can peruse and collect new-to-them toys, games, textiles and electricals. To ensure a high-quality and enjoyable experience for all, residents are asked to follow the swap event guidelines
  • All donated items must be in good condition, clean and well looked after
  • No broken or dirty items
  • No large outdoor play equipment such as wendy houses or garden climbing frames (due to space restrictions)

The event will also feature a craft zone, where children can get hands-on with eco-friendly, creative activities, a perfect way to keep the half-term holiday boredom at bay while sparking imagination and sustainability.

Any items left after the event will be recycled or donated to charity.

Duncan McBurney, Contract Manager for Veolia in Broadland, said:

“This event is a fantastic way for Broadland’s youngest residents to get involved with sustainability by giving pre-loved toys and games a new life. This event extends our sustainability efforts beyond delivering essential recycling, waste collection and street cleansing services by helping residents embrace reuse, which is even better for the planet than recycling.”

Broadland District Council’s Cabinet Member Cllr Jan Davis said:

“This event is a fantastic opportunity for residents to support each other and give much‑loved items a new lease of life. By choosing to reuse rather than throw away, we’re helping families across Broadland while taking positive steps to reduce waste and protect our environment. I’m delighted to see our community leading the way in making sustainability practical, affordable and enjoyable for everyone.”
