Swap and Save: free school uniform events to support families and cut waste

Families in Broadland and South Norfolk are being invited to take part in a series of school uniform swap shops this summer, helping ease the cost of getting ready for the new school year, while also reducing textile waste.
Organised by the councils’ recycling team, the swap shops are open until 1 September at Wymondham Leisure Centre, Long Stratton Leisure Centre, and Diss Swim Centre in South Norfolk. In Broadland, there is a swap shop located in Acle War Memorial Recreation Centre, or alternatively we have a pop up swap shop at the Family Hubs Teddy Bear Picnic on Thursday 28 August, 11:30am–1:30pm at Lingwood Village Hall.
Residents can donate clean, good-condition school uniforms that their children have outgrown, and take what their family needs, all completely free. No forms, no fees, just community helping community.
Cllr Jan Davis, Cabinet Member for Environmental Excellence at Broadland District Council, said:
This initiative is a fantastic way to support families during what can be a financially stressful time. It’s also a great opportunity to promote reuse and reduce waste in our communities."
Cllr Keith Kiddie, Cabinet Member for Cleaner and Safer Environment at South Norfolk Council, added:
Uniform swap shops are a win for everyone, they help parents save money, encourage sustainability and bring people together in a spirit of generosity and support."
Donations of school jumpers, shirts, trousers, skirts, PE kits, shoes, and accessories are welcome, as long as items are clean and in wearable condition.
