South Norfolk: Leisure facilities to reopen

Following the government’s announcement that leisure centres can now reopen, the gym and fitness facilities at South Norfolk Council’s leisure centres will open from Saturday 25 July.
This includes Wymondham Leisure Centre, Long Stratton Leisure Centre, Framingham Earl Sports Centre and Kett’s Park.
South Norfolk Councillor Alison Thomas said:
“This is fantastic news and we’re really looking forward to getting our leisure centres open again. I want to thank the staff for the incredible work they’ve done to make sure our customers will be as safe as possible. It’s important that our members can exercise with confidence knowing that we have done all we can to protect them. "A report from an independent inspector has called our preparations outstanding and we now look forward to welcoming our members back and getting back to normal as soon as possible.”
Fitness equipment has been spaced through the buildings to accommodate as many gym users as possible, with classes taking place in the sports halls and at the council’s facility at Kett’s Park
To help manage the reopening:
- gym sessions must be pre-booked using the customers’ online account. There will be nine sessions between Monday and Friday and five at the weekend, with each session lasting a maximum of 75 minutes
- customers will be asked to initially limit their participation to either one gym session or class per day. Customers will be asked to book a session in one specific area, with no movement between areas
- the changing rooms and showers will remain closed, so customers will be asked to arrive ready to train. Queuing and one-way systems are in place to allow customers to move around the building as safely as possible
- customers will be asked to agree to a new User Agreement that will help to ensure that everyone plays their part in keeping the centres as safe as possible, meaning everyone can be active with confidence
The Council has brought forward essential maintenance on both of its swimming pools and the pool at Wymondham will reopen from the 10 August and Diss Leisure centre will reopen from mid-September following the completion of the work.
You can see some of the many steps that have been taken to keep customers safe in the centres on the South Norfolk Council Leisure YouTube channel.
