South Norfolk: Leisure centres open

South Norfolk Council’s leisure facilities reopened on Saturday, much to the delight of local residents.
The gym and fitness facilities at South Norfolk Council’s Wymondham Leisure Centre, Long Stratton Leisure Centre, Framingham Earl Sports Centre and Kett’s Park are all now open with new safety measures in place.
Long Stratton gym user Katie Morris, said:
“It’s fantastic to be able to get back to the gym, I’ve really missed the exercise and all the lovely staff. “The changes are really good, like spacing out the equipment, all the cleaning going on and the hand sanitiser. Also, because they have limited how many people are in the gym, you have loads more space, which is nice and means you can keep your distance.”
Fitness equipment has been spaced through the buildings to accommodate as many gym users as possible, with classes taking place in the sports halls and at the council’s facility at Kett’s Park
The key changes to help keep everyone keep safe are:
- gym sessions must be pre-booked using the customers’ online account. There will be nine sessions between Monday and Friday and five at the weekend, with each session lasting a maximum of 75 minutes
- customers are being asked to initially limit their participation to either one gym session or class per day. Customers are asked to book a session in one specific area, with no movement between areas
- the changing rooms and showers will remain closed, so customers should arrive ready to train. Queuing and one-way systems are in place to allow customers to move around the building as safely as possible
- customers are being asked to agree to a new User Agreement that will help to ensure that everyone plays their part in keeping the centres as safe as possible, meaning everyone can be active with confidence
The council has brought forward essential maintenance on both of its swimming pools and the pool at Wymondham will reopen from the 10 August and Diss Leisure Centre will reopen from mid-September following the completion of the work.
