Following the government’s announcement that leisure centres and swimming pools can reopen, Diss Leisure Centre opened its doors yesterday, 14 September.

South Norfolk Council Cabinet member Alison Thomas:

“It is fantastic news that we have now been able to reopen all our leisure centres and swimming pools. We know that keeping fit is a good defence against COVID-19 and we have done everything we can to help keep our staff and customers safe.”

The importance of sport and physical activity to people’s physical health and mental wellbeing has been recognised by the government and the council has had its COVID-19 operating procedures independently assessed by health and safety specialists who praised the steps that have been taken.

The measures include:

  • a queuing system will be put in place outside of the entrance
  • markers have been laid out on the floor so people adhere to social distancing
  • a one-way system will be in operation at the building so there will be different entrance and exit points
  • screens have been put up at the reception
  • there will be a limit to the amount of people and time spent in the building each day
  • all sessions must be pre booked
  • members will be restricted to one activity booking per day
  • showers will not be available at the present time

The gym slots, swim sessions and classes will be bookable online. Members will be able to book two weeks in advance, excluding family swim sessions, casual gym and class and pool users will be able to book one week in advance.

The gym visits will run at set times with 75 minute slots, followed by a 15 minute break, to allow surface cleaning and air refresh and to ensure we are able to clear the gym between sessions.

Swim sessions will run at set times with 60 minutes slots (45 minutes swim time and 15 minutes changing time). All swimmers will need to book a place in the lane swims, family sessions are available for up to six swimmers. If you wish to book a family swim for less than four swimmers or to include members please contact reception on 01379 652754.
