South Norfolk Council unlocks site for 100% affordable housing

South Norfolk Council has announced that the sale of the South Norfolk House site has been agreed.
South Norfolk Council has announced that the sale of the South Norfolk House site has been agreed. The sale, which is conditional on planning consent, paves the way for a new community of a minimum of 60 high-quality, 100% affordable homes, directly addressing the needs of local residents. The transformation of the former headquarters into a residential development represents a major win for residents.
Leader of the Council, Daniel Elmer said:
This sale is about more than just a property transaction, it’s about supporting our residents and making sure that people can afford to live in the area they grew up, close to friends and family. By securing an agreement for 100% affordable housing, we are ensuring that Long Stratton remains vibrant, accessible, and home to local people for generations to come."
The sale has been agreed with Inside Land for £1.3 million ensuring taxpayers receive maximum value.
The Council’s move to the Horizon Centre in 2023 continues to deliver tangible benefits to residents, including increased service efficiency and better accessibility. At a time of rising energy costs the Horizon provides huge savings to the council and residents as increases in energy prices are offset thanks to the solar panels that are installed on the building and car park.
With ample parking, electric vehicle charging points, and superior public transport links, the new headquarters reflects the Council’s forward-thinking approach to public service.
By moving to its new shared headquarters with Broadland District Council, South Norfolk is already realizing a 84% reduction in its carbon footprint, contributing to the ambitious goal of carbon neutrality well ahead of the government’s 2050 target.
