South Norfolk Council Celebrates Exceptional Year for Affordable Housing Delivery

Building affordable homes in South Norfolk

South Norfolk Council’s commitment to providing high-quality, affordable homes has delivered outstanding results, significantly exceeding annual targets and laying strong foundations for continued success.

A new report shows that a total of 333 affordable homes were completed in the 2024/25 financial year, nearly double the target of 169.

Cabinet member, Graham Minshull said:

"The exceptional delivery of these much-needed affordable homes is a direct result of the dedication of our Housing Enabling Team and the strength of our partnerships working. Our close collaboration with housing associations, developers, and other stakeholders has been absolutely crucial in not only exceeding our ambitious targets but also in delivering high-quality, affordable homes that truly meet the diverse needs of our communities."

The final quarter of the year saw further impressive progress, with 77 new affordable homes delivered across seven locations, including Cringleford, Harleston, and Wymondham. This included 55 homes for affordable rent and 22 for affordable home ownership, providing a range of options to meet housing needs.

The newly completed homes demonstrate a strong focus on quality and variety, encompassing 1, 2 3 and 4 bedroom houses, bungalows, and flats, all built to high standards. This mix of homes ensures that the new developments cater to a wide range of households and contribute to the creation of sustainable and inclusive communities.

Several notable milestones were achieved during the year, including the successful delivery of the first 35 affordable homes at Saffron Housing Trust’s 151-home development in Harleston and the completion of a vital rural exceptions scheme in Great Moulton, providing four homes specifically to meet local needs.

South Norfolk Council also boasts a healthy future supply of affordable housing projects, ensuring continued progress and success over the next number of years.

These new projects include, 100% affordable housing schemes started in Diss (35 homes) and Roydon (43 homes), while ongoing delivery continues at key development sites in Cringleford, Harleston, and Hethersett, with the groundbreaking event for The Oaks extra care scheme in Harleston scheduled for April 23, 2025, further enhancing housing options for older residents.
