South Norfolk: Council and Norfolk Police work in partnership to address anti-social behaviour in Wymondham

Following reports of moped drivers acting in an anti-social way in residential areas of Wymondham, South Norfolk Council and Norfolk Constabulary worked together to address the complaints.
The Council and Police had both received numerous complaints from concerned residents about the behaviour of some young moped riders actions - which included littering, screaming, shouting, playing loud music as well as erratic driving which could pose a danger to themselves and the wider community.
Using powers under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Police Act 2014, joint action was taken by the Police and South Norfolk Council to identify the motorists and registered keepers of the vehicles and issue them with Community Protection Warnings. In two cases it was necessary to issue Section 59 warnings for those riders who exhibited escalated behaviours, allowing Police the powers to seize the vehicles should more instances of anti-social behaviour occur in the future.
Both South Norfolk Council and the police are committed to taking positive action to help prevent any form of anti-social behaviour, to educate those involved and when necessary, take further action. Since the partnership action was undertaken there have been no further reports of anti-social behaviour and residents seem much happier.
Cllr Alison Thomas - South Norfolk Council Portfolio holder for Better Lives said:
"I am delighted that this collaborative effort with Norfolk Police has been successful. Ensuring that our residents are able to enjoy their communities in peace and safety is paramount to South Norfolk Council. We want all our residents to feel empowered to address issues that may be causing them concern and know that we are here to help."
Speaking on behalf of the Norfolk Constabulary, Sergeant Jason Ellis at Norfolk Constabulary said:
"It is important as a community that we live peacefully, allowing motorists to enjoy their vehicles but also for residents and visitors of the community to go about their daily business without any disturbance. We want to educate our motorists to conduct themselves in a positive manner."
