Residents praised after recycling event success

Recycling event at Kett's Park with RSPCA

Residents have been thanked for their incredible generosity after a joint recycling and donation event organised by South Norfolk Council and the RSPCA proved a huge success.

The event, held at Kett’s Park Community Centre in Wymondham on Monday 12 October, gave residents the opportunity to donate reusable items to the RSPCA while recycling unwanted electricals and textiles through South Norfolk Council. Around 400 bags and boxes of items were donated to the RSPCA, with an estimated value of £8,000.

The response was so overwhelming that the charity filled its vans eight times and still has some of the donated stock waiting to be distributed to its shops.

South Norfolk Council’s Cabinet Member for the Environment, Cllr Martyn Hooton, said:

The response from residents was absolutely fantastic and I’d like to thank everyone who came along and donated or recycled their unwanted items.

“It was wonderful to see so many things being given a second life rather than going to waste, while at the same time supporting the vital work of the RSPCA. The sheer amount collected really shows what can be achieved when our communities get behind events like this.”

Residents recycled 293 small electrical items and 175 wires and plugs, weighing a total of 0.37 tonnes, as well as 12 bags of textiles. The materials recovered through recycling will be put back to good use, helping to reduce waste and make better use of valuable resources.
