Pre-loved costumes wanted for free world book day swaps

Families across South Norfolk are being encouraged to get ready for World Book Day without spending a penny, thanks to South Norfolk Council’s School Uniform Swap Shops.

The swap shops, based at Wymondham Leisure Centre, Long Stratton Leisure Centre and Diss Swim Centre, are now collecting pre-loved children’s costumes ahead of the annual event on Wednesday 5 March.

Residents are invited to donate any costumes their children have outgrown and, in return, pick up something new, all completely free of charge.

Councillor Graham Minshull, South Norfolk Council’s Cabinet Member for Supporting People, said:

World Book Day should be about celebrating stories and creativity, not worrying about cost. Our uniform swap shops are a fantastic way for families to support one another, save money and reduce waste at the same time. Donating and reusing costumes helps keep perfectly good items from going to waste while making sure every child can take part and feel included.”

The swap shops are particularly looking for: storybook characters, superheroes, animal costumes, fairytale outfits and simple DIY items such as capes, hats and accessories.

The School Uniform Swap Shops run throughout the year, helping families access school uniforms and related items for free, while also cutting down on textile waste.
