Norwich Infrastructure Plan updated to boost growth and quality of life

The Greater Norwich Infrastructure Plan (GNIP) has been updated to outline the region’s infrastructure needs and priorities for the coming year.
This essential document, developed in collaboration with key partners, guides investment and infrastructure development across Greater Norwich, aiming to improve the lives of residents and protect the environment.
Chair of the Greater Norwich Growth Board, Councillor Sue Holland said:
“The Greater Norwich Growth Board is a unique partnership that uses its combined resources to ensure that essential infrastructure is delivered alongside housing growth. The Infrastructure Plan sets out in clear and easily understood language the benefits that can be delivered to our communities when we all work together.”
The GNIP plays a crucial role in coordinating and managing the delivery of strategic infrastructure projects. It also informs the allocation of funding from the Infrastructure Investment Fund (IIF), ensuring that resources are directed towards projects that deliver the greatest benefit to the community.
Key highlights of the updated plan include:
- A renewed focus on decarbonization and sustainability: The plan outlines collaborative efforts to reduce carbon emissions and enhance environmental protection.
- Identification of strategic growth areas: The GNIP pinpoints areas for planned housing and employment growth, ensuring that infrastructure development aligns with future needs.
- Transparent funding allocation: The plan details the various funding streams used to deliver infrastructure projects in the region, providing clarity on investment sources.
- Empowering communities: The GNIP explains how Neighbourhood CIL (Community Infrastructure Levy) funds are managed and spent, showcasing the impact of local plans on local infrastructure development.
- Prioritizing infrastructure needs: The plan categorizes infrastructure requirements into four key areas – Green Infrastructure, Transport, Community Facilities, and Education – and identifies additional needs across other sectors.
- Comprehensive project pipeline: A detailed list of current and planned infrastructure projects is included, providing transparency on future developments.
By providing a clear roadmap for infrastructure delivery, the GNIP contributes to the overall growth and prosperity of Greater Norwich. It ensures that the region is well-equipped to meet the challenges and opportunities of the future while preserving its natural environment and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
This year, the plan has been published in a digital format and written in plain English, to make it as accessible as possible. It’s very important that residents engage with the plan.
