Nominations open for exceptional architecture in Broadland

Broadland District Council is now welcoming nominations for its 2025 Design and Enhancement Awards, which celebrate the district’s most outstanding architectural achievements.
The awards recognise both innovative new builds and the creative transformation of existing buildings that make a positive contribution to the local area.
Chairwoman of Broadland District Council, Cllr Caroline Karimi-Ghovanlou, said:
We’re looking for unique builds or enhancements that challenge convention and push the boundaries of design. Whether experimental or traditional, these projects should reflect the needs of the local environment and community. If you know of such a building in Broadland, we’d love to hear from you.
The Council is seeking entries in two categories, for projects completed within the last two years. The Design Awards are for new houses or developments that demonstrate high-quality design, the use of sustainable and sympathetic materials, and a strong relationship with their surroundings. The Enhancement Awards are for existing buildings that have been extended, repaired, or repurposed in a way that enhances their character and benefits the wider community.
Previous winners have included contemporary eco-homes, barn conversions, restored walled gardens, and former shops transformed into cafés and community spaces.
To nominate a project, entrants must submit eight photographs of the building or development, along with a short statement of no more than 150 words explaining why it deserves recognition.
Nominations should be emailed to chris.bennett@southnorfolkandbroadland.gov.uk. The deadline for submissions is Monday, 25 August 2025.
Judging will take place in the autumn and will include site visits by the Council’s Heritage and Design Officer and members of the Awards Committee.
