Member ward grant backs rugby club

A local club has benefitted from a ward grant of £900 from South Norfolk Council’s deputy leader, Graham Minshull.
The grant has gone to Norfolk Knights, a Wheelchair Rugby club that was established in 2016 with the aim of bringing this exciting sport to Norfolk.
Councillor Minshull, ward member for Diss, said:
“Norfolk Knights is a fantastic club that’s opening up opportunities for people to keep active and have fun. Rugby is a contact sport that requires special wheelchairs, they need to be maintained and that costs money. This grant will help pay some of those costs and keep the club moving forward.”
The club is open to anyone from the age of 18 interested in learning more about the game. They provide the key equipment and training and games take place in accessible venues.
First and foremost the Norfolk Knights are focused on building a social team for both male and female disabled participants, but for those interested in playing competitive matches, the club fields a team in the GBWR WR5s tournament which is played over the summer months.
The club is also encouraging able-bodied volunteers to join them to train as assistants, chair mechanics, coaches and referees.
