Marking 80 years since the end of WWII

Broadland District Council’s Chairwoman, Caroline Karimi-Ghovanlou and the Leader of South Norfolk Council, Daniel Elmer raised a commemorative Flag to mark the 80th anniversary of VJ Day.
A day that marks the definitive end of World War II. They were joined by Mary Bolton, Deputy Lieutenant of Norfolk.
As a poignant symbol of unity and remembrance, the flag will fly proudly outside the Councils’ Headquarters.
Councillor Karimi-Ghovanlou said:
Raising the VJ flag is an important way for our community to honour the memory of those who served and to reflect on the immense cost of war. It is a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made to secure the peace and prosperity we enjoy today."
Councillor Daniel Elmer said:
As we commemorate the end of World War II, it is more important than ever to remember the sacrifices made for our freedom by so many people. We not only honour those who served but also those who supported them at home."
The flag commemorates those challenging years and the unwavering pride and resolute determination of the British people who stood strong in the face of overwhelming odds for so long. It was also a powerful symbol of the unity displayed by people from across the Commonwealth, who came together to support Great Britain in its time of need.
