Make a child smile this Christmas

Toys under a Christmas tree

Residents and businesses across South Norfolk and Broadland are being asked to help spread a little Christmas magic by supporting a Christmas Toy Appeal run by South Norfolk Council and Broadland District Council.

The Councils’ Help Hub are once again collecting new, unwrapped gifts for children and young people aged 0 to 18 whose families are experiencing hardship. Last year, the generosity of local communities helped the appeal collect more than 1,000 toys, 378 books and almost 300 additional gifts, supporting 208 families across the two districts.

This year, the councils are hoping residents, businesses and community groups will once again get behind the appeal and help ensure children who might otherwise go without, have a present to open on Christmas Day.

South Norfolk Council Cabinet Member, Cllr Graham Minshull, said:

“Christmas should be a magical time for every child, but we know that for many families it can also bring added financial pressures. The response to this appeal is always incredibly heart-warming and shows just how generous our communities are.

“Whether you donate a book, a toy or a gift voucher, every contribution can make a real difference and bring some extra joy to a child this Christmas.”

Broadland District Council Cabinet Member, Cllr Natasha Harpley, said:

“We’re asking our communities to show the same wonderful generosity they did last year. Even one small gift can mean so much to a child and their family, and together we can make sure more children have something special to open on Christmas morning.”

The appeal welcomes new, unopened and good-quality gifts, including toys, books, toiletries, stationery and gift vouchers and should not be wrapped. Donations can be dropped off at collection points across South Norfolk and Broadland until 29 November 2026.

Used or second-hand goods, damaged or incomplete items, food, perishable goods and alcohol cannot be accepted. Full details, including collection points, opening times and gift ideas for different ages, are available on the councils’ Christmas Toy Donation Appeal webpage.
