Local running club supported with Pride In Place grant

Bungay black dogs 300x200

The Bungay Black Dog Running Club held the grand opening of its new covered training area on 18 July.

The opening of their new facility coincided with their annual memorial run to remember its members who have sadly passed away over previous years.

The club which was founded in 1982, received a Pride In Place grant from South Norfolk Council of £17,883 towards the cost of the new training area in Ditchingham and they also successfully secured an £8,000 Community Action Fund Grant to help with the work.

The new covered training area enables the 300-strong Club, that is run entirely by volunteers, to operate in all weathers and encourage people of all ages to get fit and active.

The addition of the covered area also means the Club that runs a monthly DSActive session for athletes with Down Sydrome, will be able to increase the frequency of their training sessions as they will no longer have to hold them in the village hall.

Site Director John Wharton said:

"The new Covered Training Area (CTA) enables us to grow our facility and reach more members of the local community. Wet weather will no longer restrict what we can do. Training always goes ahead whatever the weather, but even the hardiest athletes have reduced enthusiasm in cold rain! With the new facility anyone will be able to look forward to joining an inclusive and fun running club whatever the weather."
