Diss residents help shape future leisure facilities at public consultation

Over 200 residents attended a public consultation held at Diss Market on Friday 25 April. This was the first of five face-to-face consultations organised by South Norfolk Council to gather residents' views on the proposed new facilities.
South Norfolk Cabinet Member for Health & Leisure, Cllr Kim Carsok, said:
Thank you to everyone who came along and contributed. We received some excellent feedback, and it was fantastic to hear the excitement surrounding the plans for the new centre. This investment will have a significant impact on people's health and wellbeing, enhance the Mere, and provide a wonderful community space where people can gather and connect.
This consultation is a valuable opportunity for us to understand how the community will use the centre and ensure we meet their needs. If you cannot attend one of our public consultations, please fill out our online survey."
The Council's initial plans are to create a modern, inclusive space for health, fitness, and community connection, featuring a welcoming café, a soft play area, a spacious modern gym, and a vibrant plaza with stunning views over the Mere.
Outdoor seating and scenic views will offer a relaxing place to gather and unwind. The building will be thoughtfully designed to complement its surroundings and reflect the character of nearby structures.
The project will benefit from £1million from the Greater Norwich Growth Board. During the consultation, residents have the opportunity to view plans, drawings, and timelines, including early designs for the new facilities, showcasing what the space could offer and how it might look once completed.
Upcoming face-to-face consultations will be held on:
- 30 April – Diss Corn Hall, 12pm-8pm
- 1 May – Diss Corn Hall, 12pm-6pm
- 6 May – Octagon, Diss, 9am-5pm
- 7 May – Octagon, Diss, 9am-5pm
Residents can also take part in the online survey, which will run until 30 May, by visiting our consultation mini-site.
