Councils urge residents to become Love Local Heroes this Christmas

 Aylsham Garden Centre

Broadland and South Norfolk District Councils are calling on residents to show their support for local businesses this festive season through the Love Local campaign. With Christmas fast approaching, the councils are reminding shoppers that now is the perfect time to become a Love Local Hero by choosing independent businesses right on their doorstep.

Across the districts’ market towns and countryside, residents can discover a treasure trove of local shops offering festive food, unique gifts and seasonal sparkle. From handmade decorations and thoughtful stocking fillers to the perfect centrepiece for the Christmas table, shopping locally makes the season even more magical.

South Norfolk Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Growth, Cllr Lisa Overton-Neal, said:

Shopping locally is a joyful and rewarding experience. Our independent shopkeepers pour their hearts into creating beautiful displays and sourcing unique, high-quality products you won’t find anywhere else. Every single pound spent locally supports our economy, helps our high streets thrive and backs local jobs and communities. So this festive season, shop local, spread the cheer and become a Love Local Hero.”

Broadland District Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Cllr Martin Booth, added:

Independent businesses are the lifeblood of our towns and villages. By choosing to shop local, residents are helping to keep these businesses strong and vibrant. Becoming a Love Local Hero is simple – every purchase you make locally helps to protect jobs, boosts the economy and keeps our communities thriving.”

The councils are urging everyone to take part in the campaign and make a conscious choice to support local independents when doing their Christmas shopping. Every purchase helps sustain jobs, strengthens communities and ensures high streets remain lively and welcoming.

To make shopping locally even easier, South Norfolk Council is extending its free parking in market towns from one hour to two hours on Saturdays throughout the festive period, encouraging more people to take advantage of the fantastic independent businesses on their doorstep.
