Broadland District and South Norfolk Councils are celebrating Recycle Week the nation’s biggest annual celebration of recycling.

Now in its twentieth year, the event runs from 16 to 20 October and this year the theme is The Big Recycling Hunt.

"The Big Recycling Hunt", promises to shine a bright spotlight on items that residents might not realise they can recycle and that often end up in the bin. For example, empty aerosols, plastic cleaning product bottles, plastic toiletry bottles, plastic pots and tubs, and food tins.

Broadland District Cabinet Member for the Environment Cllr Jan Davis said;

“We have the best recycling rates in the County, so our residents are getting it right! However, we can always do better, so this week we will be launching a social media campaign to remind people of all the items that can be recycled.”

South Norfolk Councils Cabinet Member, Graham Minshull, said:

“By recycling even better we can have a bigger impact on our environment. More and more people are recycling, so the next step is to make sure we hunt down these missed items and get our recycling right. Keep an eye on our social media for some top tips.”

Last year Broadland residents recycled 10,000 tonnes of waste, plus 50 tonnes of electrical equipment, 40 tonnes of textiles and 7 tonnes of batteries.

In South Norfolk residents recycled more than 11,000 tonnes of dry recycling materials and almost 10,000 tonnes of garden waste.

Residents are being reminded to recycle aerosol cans, tin cans, food containers, plastic pots, tubs and trays. Most takeaway trays or punnets are in fact recyclable as well as butter and ice cream tubs, yogurt pots and fruit andf veg trays. shampoo, shower gel and skin care product bottles, trigger sprays, bleach, detergent and soap bottles.
