Councils cracking down on fly-tipping

Two Norfolk Councils have launched a major new campaign to crack down on fly-tipping.
‘Where’s The Fly-tip’, or WTF for short, is a campaign asking residents to report all incidents of fly-tipping that they witness and to send the Councils any evidence that they have, including pictures, that might help identify the culprits.
Both Councils are determined to stamp out fly-tipping, a crime that can have a devastating impact on the environment and the community.
Fly-tipping is the illegal dumping of waste, and it can take many forms. It can be as simple as leaving a bag of rubbish on the side of the road, or it can be more serious, such as dumping a truckload of construction debris in a wooded area.
No matter what the size or type of fly-tipping, it is a crime and is punishable by a fine of up to £5,000.
South Norfolk Councillor, Keith Kiddie said:
“We are committed to keeping the community clean and fly-tipping can be a major obstacle to that goal. Our two Councils are working together to identify and prosecute fly-tippers, and we are also working to educate the public about the many dangers of fly-tipping.”
Broadland District Councillor, Jan Davis told us:
“We are asking residents to help us in our battle against fly-tippers. If you see someone fly-tipping, please report it and with your help we can make a real difference and keep our local environment looking neat and tidy and great places to live and visit.”
The two councils are asking their communities to dispose of their waste properly. Householders are legally required to check that their waste will be disposed of correctly.
Householders must ask the person who is removing their waste where they intend to dispose of it, and they must ask to see their waste carrier’s license. If they’re unable to provide one then, they may be disposing of your waste incorrectly and you could be held liable for a fixed penalty notice or even prosecution.
