Council launches fund to boost biodiversity and green spaces

Broadland District Council has launched its new Future for Nature fund, a grant scheme aimed at helping communities across the district enhance biodiversity, tackle climate change and improve access to nature.
Cllr Jan Davis, Portfolio Holder for Environmental Excellence at Broadland District Council, said:
This fund gives local groups the chance to bring their environmental ideas to life, whether that’s planting trees, restoring habitats, or making green spaces more accessible. These projects will strengthen our natural environment and help people connect with nature."
The fund will provide ten grants of up to £5,000 to town and parish councils, community groups, and charities for projects that support carbon sequestration, enrich local ecosystems, or improve public access to green spaces. Priority will be given to proposals such as planting Miyawaki-style mini forests, restoring ponds, creating circular walks, developing wildflower meadows, establishing community orchards, or creating scrubland habitats. However, all ideas that align with the fund’s environmental goals are welcome.
To support applicants, a workshop will be held on 15 October at Lingwood Village Hall. Applications open on 20 October and close on 21 November.
