Consultation opens on Homelessness and Rough Sleeper Strategy: "From Small Acts to Big Changes"

Have your say on tackling homelessness in Broadland

Broadland District Council is asking its residents and stakeholders to take part in a consultation on the draft Homelessness and Rough Sleeper Strategy for 2025-2030, titled "From Small Acts to Big Changes: Together we can stop homelessness."

Broadland District Councillor, Natasha Harpley said:

Looking after the most vulnerable people in our society and making sure that people have a safe place to live is a priority for this council.

This strategy outlines our plans for the next five years to address the ever changing challenges of homelessness in our region and marks a real step forward in the council's commitment to building on our successful homelessness prevention and relief work so far. From Small Acts to Big Changes” represents the Council’s unwavering commitment to tackling homelessness in Broadland.

By working together with partners and communities, the Council can make a real difference and ensure that everyone has access to safe and secure housing.

Key Highlights of the Strategy:

  • Building on Success: The strategy acknowledges the council's proven track record in homelessness prevention.
  • Addressing Current Challenges: Recognizing the ongoing pressures of the cost of living and housing crises, the strategy tackles key issues identified through data analysis and stakeholder engagement, including:
    • Increased housing affordability challenges.
    • The need for enhanced support for vulnerable groups.
  • Collaborative Approach: The strategy emphasizes the importance of collaborative working with stakeholders, including care leavers, domestic abuse survivors, young people, private renters, and those experiencing rough sleeping.
  • Key Themes: The strategy focuses on addressing key themes identified through stakeholder workshops: o Combating stigma and exclusion.
    • Strengthening early homelessness prevention.
    • Improving tenancy preparation.
    • Expanding affordable accommodation options. o Enhancing collaborative working.
  • Vision and Action: The council has developed a clear vision and set of priorities, acknowledging that a multi-faceted approach is essential to effectively address homelessness.

The consultation runs from 31 March to 28 April and the Council is asking residents to have their say.
