Celebrating Design Excellence in Broadland: Nominations Now Open for Enhancement Awards

Nominations for Broadland District Council’s Enhancement Awards opened on 15 July.
The awards recognise and celebrate projects that have significantly improved existing buildings or brought buildings back to life, while enhancing Broadland’s built environment and preserving the unique character of the district. By highlighting exceptional projects, the Council aims to raise design standards in the area.
Cllr Caroline Karimi-Ghovanlou, Chair of the Awards Panel, emphasised the importance of the awards, she said:
“These awards celebrate fantastic design that enhances our built environment and preserves the special character of our beautiful district. A huge amount of work, time and money goes into restoring, converting or extending a building and we want to highlight not just the building, but the vision people have to put in the hard work, and to create and restore unique and inspirational spaces. I am looking forward to visiting all the nominees who are always so passionate and proud of their accomplishments.”
Eligible projects should enhance the local area, respecting its character, scale and design, or represent a considerable improvement to the original structure. Previous winners include both contemporary and sympathetic extensions and projects that bring historic buildings back into use.
Last year, The Lodge at Drayton, converted by developers Hidden Talent Homes, won the top award. They transformed a 1914 building into eight individual homes and undertook preservation works to an original 15th century lodge in the grounds, removing it from the Buildings at Risk Register.
Judging will take place in September, with winners invited to an awards evening in October at the Horizon Business Centre.
To nominate a project, submit eight photographs and a short statement (no more than 100 words) explaining why it deserves the award. Send your entries to chris.bennett@southnorfolkandbroadland.gov.uk by 12 August.
