Broadland: Success for first ever virtual Marriott’s Way 10k

Runners were asked to complete the 10k distance anytime and anywhere between Monday 28 September and Sunday 4 October 2020, record their time via a wearable fitness or sports tracker, and upload their results to an online leader board.

Participants paid a £10 entry fee, with 25% of the race profits going towards Cancer Research UK. Each runner who completed the distance received a branded course medal.

Children aged under 15 and their families were able to take part and raise funds for Cancer Research UK by running or walking in the one-mile fun run, with an entry cost of £5.

Councillor Fran Whymark, Portfolio Holder for Housing and Wellbeing, commented:

“Our twelfth annual Marriott’s Way 10k was a rather different event to previous years but we knew that giving people the chance to come together to enjoy a fun activity – especially one that helps improve our health – was more important than ever. I’m delighted with the enthusiasm runners have shown for this virtual event and it’s wonderful that families have continued to embrace the popular children’s fun run. Congratulations and well done to all who took part.”

Businesses from across the district entered the 10k challenge, with teams of four going head to head in a competitive Corporate Race which saw Norfolk County Council emerge victorious.

The council has chosen to raise money for the charity Cancer Research UK in memory of staff member Paul Anderson who sadly passed away on 6 July 2020.
