Broadland: Raising the flag for Britain’s Armed Forces

The Armed Forces Day flag will be flying high throughout the week at Thorpe Lodge in Thorpe St Andrew and messages of support, including a video from MD Trevor Holden will be posted on the council’s social media pages.

Mr Holden, who served as a Wing Commander in the Royal Air Force, said:

“Armed Forces Week is a fantastic way to show our support to all the men and women who are currently serving in our British Forces, the service families, veterans and cadets.”

Cllr. Jo Copplestone, Armed Forces Covenant Champion said:

“The Armed Forces are a major part of our community both as a district and as a Council. The sacrifices they are prepared to make to keep us safe, should be admired by all. “I call on all Broadland residents to join me and the other members of the Council to show their thanks to these brave men and women sharing pictures of their salutes on social media using #SaluteOurForces.”

Cllr Copplestone is also a member of Broadland District Council’s Cabinet, who recently approved plans to offer an additional 10 days paid leave to Reservists employed by the council.

Chairman of Broadland District Council, Cllr Karen Vincent paid her respects to Armed Forces personnel at Old Catton War Memorial. She was joined by Armed Forces veterans; Mr Alan Harbour, Mr Vic Conley and the Old Catton branch of Royal British Legion at the War Memorial.
