Broadland: Nominations are now open for the sixth annual Community at Heart Awards

Broadland District Council Chairman, Cllr Karen Vincent who launched the awards this week said:

“We have so many incredible people that go above and beyond in Broadland and our community spirit has never been stronger. “The Community at Heart Awards is your chance to nominate all the fantastic people that make Broadland such a great place to live, so that we can say a heartfelt thank you. “We want to hear about the amazing acts of kindness and generosity from all those who go the extra mile in our district, from helping out within the community, running sports clubs, fundraising, or volunteering.”

John Warren, Partner of principal event sponsors Price Bailey said:

We should stop and recognise the efforts of those outstanding individuals that have strived to make their local communities better, particularly in what has been one of the most challenging years we have faced in recent times. Winners in each of the ten categories will be announced in October, and each will receive £250 for their community group or project.

Previous finalists and winners have included local charities, athletes, litter pickers, devoted friends, choirs and more.

Suicide bereavement support charity, Empathy won last year’s Community Group of the Year category and also attended the socially distanced launch.

Founders Kathryn and Joy said:

“We were delighted to be chosen as Community Group of the year 2019 and very grateful for the money that we received. It has enabled us to upgrade our dedicated Empathy phone which has been vital for us to use during the lockdown. It also provided additional books for our lending library. We have continued to provide support during the lockdown by way of calls, texts and emails, although recently we have been able to meet people individually adhering to social distancing rules. We were also pleased to have the chance to honour our Chairman Norman, who recently passed. He was a valued and loved friend, trustee and chairman and we will continue to support people in the best way that we can to preserve the years of commitment and the legacy that Norman has left behind.”
