Broadland: Job club gives residents Choices

Working

Broadland residents who need a hand getting back into work can sign up for Broadland District Council’s latest Choices course, starting on 26 April.

The hugely successful course has helped scores of people regain confidence, learn new skills and find employment.

Broadland District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Economic Development Councillor Jo Copplestone said:

“If you are nervous about going back to work after a break, or need help to find a job, then this course is for you. Our friendly staff will put you at ease and give you the skills and support you need to get a foot back on the career ladder.”

The programme which runs every Tuesday over several weeks, can also help people access training courses and volunteering opportunities. Sessions run between 10am-1pm and attendance is flexible. The course covers CV writing, interview techniques, training opportunities and help to boost confidence.

For resident Tracey, Choices gave her the skills and confidence to get back into work.

Tracey said:

“I had been a self-employed florist for several years, working from home, when I decided to change my profession. However, I lacked the confidence and tools to equip me in applying for a job. “I was very apprehensive on my first day but was greeted by Jane who immediately made me feel at ease. There were four other ladies starting the course, all wanting to achieve the same outcome. “Jane introduced Heather, who would be tutoring us, she was very welcoming. I started to relax and feel comfortable amongst the group. I looked forward to every Tuesday morning from there on. “Since starting Choices, I have gone on to work for Saffron Housing, East Anglian Air Ambulance and currently work for Broadland District and South Norfolk Councils. I gained skills and confidence but also new friends who I’m still in contact with.”

Sessions are based at Carrowbreck House, NR6 5FA. For more information, and to book a place, call Jane Bagley on 01603 430535 or email jane.bagley@southnorfolkandbroadland.gov.uk
