Broadland District Council votes to develop three unitary model for Norfolk

At its full Council meeting on Thursday 20 March 2025, Broadland District Council voted in favour of supporting the three unitary model for Norfolk.
Leader of Broadland District Council, Cllr. Sue Holland said:
"I wholeheartedly support the collaborative paper agreed today by Broadland District Council. This document reflects a unified effort to deliver the best possible outcomes for our residents.
“Norfolk's diverse landscape demands a local government structure that remains truly local, responsive, and accountable. I believe a three-unitary model offers the optimal balance, ensuring both efficiency and a deep understanding of our communities' unique needs.
“By maintaining a localized approach, we can enhance critical services like housing, health, and social care, while preserving local identities. I am committed to continued collaboration with my colleagues to ensure the best future for Norfolk."
Broadland District Council will now continue to work with other councils in Norfolk to further develop the three unitary model ahead of the government’s deadline of 26 September. An important part of that work will be to consult local residents and engagement events are being planned to take place across the district.
