Broadland District Council Chair raises vital funds for local charity at Civic Reception

Caroline Karimi Ghovanlou with the Norwich Bengali Association at Civic Reception at Horizon

The Chair of Broadland District Council, Cllr Caroline Karimi-Ghovanlou, hosted a successful Civic Reception earlier this month at the Horizon Centre, celebrating her year in office and highlighting the Council’s ongoing initiatives.

The Civic Reception featured a dance performance by the Norwich Bengali Association, alongside a charity auction and raffle, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere for all attendees. The event was attended by Deputy Lord Lieutenant Mike Harrowven, civic heads from across Norfolk, councillors, local businesses and sponsors.

The annual event also served as an opportunity to raise vital funds for her chosen charity, Norwich Door to Door, which provides essential transport services for elderly and disabled residents across the district.

Thanks to the generosity of attendees, the evening’s charity auction and raffle were a highlight of the reception, helping to raise valuable funds to support the charity’s important work. Guests enjoyed bidding on a range of fantastic prizes, contributing to a vibrant and memorable evening.

Overall, £3,425.16 was raised during the civic year, of which £3,216 was raised from the auction and raffle.

Cllr Caroline Karimi-Ghovanlou shared her gratitude, saying:

It has been a true privilege to support Norwich Door to Door during my year in office, particularly as my theme as Chair has focused on accessibility, inclusion, and diversity. The service they provide is nothing short of life-changing, helping people across our community stay independent and connected. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who donated prizes and took part in the auction and raffle - your generosity will have a lasting impact and make a real difference to so many lives.”

The many local businesses and organisations that generously donated items for the auction and raffle, included:

• Jarrold Group • Norfolk Museum Service • Maids Head Hotel • Anglian Water • EG Grounds Care Ltd • Barnham Broom • Stuff (Taverham Garden Centre) • Barkers Photo Fun • Chet Valley Vineyard Ltd • Arcadia Home and Living • Grocott & Murfit • Load4Less • BRICK BUDDY® • ROARR! • McKibbin Management Consultants Ltd • Cuppa Joy • Morliny Foods • Picture This, Print That (Taverham Garden Centre) • Pensthorpe • ZSEA, Barnham Broom • SESMA Martial Arts • Taverham Tea Rooms • The Hungry Otter • The Old Mill Pub • IC Travel Ltd

The success of the fundraising efforts was made possible by the generosity of these businesses, as well as individuals who contributed prizes and supported the event. This achievement reflects the strong community spirit across Broadland and highlights the positive impact that local collaboration can have in supporting vital services.
