Broadland: Celebrates it's COVID-19 Community Heroes

The awards are the culmination of the council’s COVID-19 Community Heroes campaign to celebrate those in Broadland who have helped others during the coronavirus pandemic.

Certificates, commemorative enamel badges in a rainbow design and bouquets of flowers were presented throughout the day (to ensure social distancing) by council Chairman, Cllr Karen Vincent and local councillors to more than 20 heroes.

Cllr Vincent said:

“It was a privilege to meet some of our inspirational Broadland community heroes and to learn about their vital work and support for others during the COVID-19 crisis, during a wonderful day, filled with so many great stories of community spirit and kindness.” “We hope the awards go some way to showing our appreciation for all that our heroes have done during the pandemic.”

The names of the COVID-19 heroes were put forward by their local communities to thank them for what they had done - from setting up food banks, helplines and Facebook support groups, to picking up shopping, delivering prescriptions and checking on vulnerable residents in their neighbourhood.

The Broadland bin crews were also celebrated for their efforts throughout the pandemic, continuing with an uninterrupted service for residents, and cheering people up along the way. Veolia were represented by one of its crew in one of the refuse vehicles which had been branded during COVID-19 with helpline numbers and details of how people could volunteer.

In the coming days Cllr Karen Vincent will be visiting more Broadland COVID-19 Community Heroes to present them with their awards.
