Broadland: Marriott’s Way 10k is a runaway success

Runners in this year's Marriotts Way 10k

Hundreds of runners took to Marriott’s Way on 9 October to take part in Broadland District Council’s annual 10k race, sponsored by Saffron Housing.

The popular Marriott’s 10k race - which raises money for Norfolk Trails, a charity that maintains the 26- mile long Marriott’s Way footpath, cycle route and bridle way - saw runners of all ages and abilities compete.

Participants set off from Aylsham in waves, with the race finishing in the historic Reepham Market Place, where spectators cheered 276 runners over the finish line.

Runners of all ages and abilities enjoyed the run, with many commenting on the enthusiasm and encouragement from the marshals on the course. There was also a huge cheer for the last runner over the line, competing still at the age of 73.

The overall winner was Joshua Holman in a time of 33.28, which was a course record.

Businesses and organisations also got involved taking up the MW10k corporate challenge, which was yet again won by the team from Aviva.

Chairman of Broadland District Council, Cllr John Fisher presented the trophies, he said:

“This is the 14th running of our 10k race, which is a firm favourite in the calendar for many runners in Norfolk and beyond. As always, we had a great turn out and it was fantastic to see so many smiling faces at the end. I would like to congratulate all of our runners and give a huge thanks our sponsors Saffron Housing our staff and to the volunteers who helped marshal the event.”

Hannah Harvey, COO of race sponsor Saffron Housing Trust, also gave out prizes to the different age group winners.
