Empty homes
Homes can become and remain empty for several reasons. When left empty, they could be at risk of attracting antisocial behaviour or crime, becoming overgrown or becoming a target for fly-tipping. They can also fall into poor condition and become a safety risk. We aim to offer support and advice to bring properties back into use.
If you know of an empty property, please report it to your council. All reported properties are investigated by our officers, typically leading to the property owners being contacted and offered support towards bringing properties back into use. If you want to be updated around progress of our investigation for a report that you have made, we can give updates around planned actions while also considering General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
For more information or general advice about the benefits of bringing an empty property back into use, please contact the Housing Standards team.
