Community Participation Data Protection

South Norfolk Council and Broadland District Council take your privacy extremely seriously with regard to the processing of personal data. We recognise the need to treat personal data lawfully, fairly and appropriately in accordance with our Policies, the Data Protection Act 2018, the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and any subsequent or amending legislation.

To find out more about how the councils handle your personal information in relation to Community Participation please view our Full Privacy Notice

Requesting information about yourself

The UK GDPR and Data Protection Act gives individuals the right to access information that the council holds on them.

To make a request for your own data (known as a Subject Access Request), it helps to have this in writing. You should email us at Data.protection@southnorfolkandbroadland.gov.uk and outline your name, address, date of birth, and any previous addresses held in the time period that covers your request. You should also tell us whether you are interested in all the information we hold about you or just specific areas, for example from a certain department or date range. We may also ask for identification documents if we are unable to verify your identity from information provided.

We have one calendar month in order to process your request. We will also consider whether we can disclose all the information to you; identifying if an exemption should be applied. Commonly, where information relates to both the requester and another individual, we have to balance the rights of both, which may result in information being withheld. We will let you know if this is the case.

You can find out more about the other rights of individuals under the UK GDPR and DPA within our Data Protection Policy.
