Broadland District Council - Budget Consultation 2026/27

We are in the process of setting the budget for 2026/27, and we value your views on our priorities.

We provide a wide range of services including housing, benefits administration, homelessness prevention, refuse collection, street cleansing, early help, planning and many more. Our total budget is approximately £45 million.

However, please note that we do not provide highway, social care, or education services. These are the responsibility of Norfolk County Council.

The main sources of income for local authorities, including Broadland District Council, are Council Tax, business rates, Government grants and the income from fees and charges.

BDC - where does the money come from? Fees, charges and other income is 30%, Council Tax 16%, Business rates 8%, Investment income 5%, Government general grants 5%, commercial services 0% and Government specific grants 36%.

Although the average Band D Council Tax for residents in Broadland in the current financial year is £2,327.99, Broadland’s share of this is only £134.91. The remaining sums are paid over to the other public sector bodies as follows.

25/26 Band D (£)%
Norfolk County Council1,755.6375.4%
Police & Crime Commissioner329.8514.3%
Broadland District Council134.915.8%
Special Expenses1.250.1%
Parishes (Average)106.354.5%
Total Band D Council Tax2,327.99100.0%

Our finances are finely balanced and a £1 increase in Council Tax contributes around £50,000 towards our expenditure budget. With reduced funding from central Government the Council is currently estimating a future funding gap.

As part of the budget setting process, the Council is interested to hear what residents and businesses think should be the most important areas for the Council to focus on and deliver.

This consultation closes at 23:59 on 16 January 2026.
