The awards recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of residents from across the district, who go above and beyond to support others or complete incredible achievements.

All shortlisted nominees were invited along to the awards ceremony at Glen Lodge, and the winner in each category received £250 to give to their chosen community group or voluntary organisation.

On Friday 3rd July, the South Norfolk Community Awards ceremony took place at the beautiful Bawburgh Golf Club, celebrating the incredible individuals who make a real difference in our communities.

We were delighted to welcome our shortlisted nominees and extend a heartfelt thank you for their dedication and selfless volunteering.

The evening was filled with inspiring stories and well-deserved recognition, culminating in the announcement of this year’s outstanding winners.

Business in the Community winner 2026

The Paul Jewiss Group

Based in Morley, Paul has spent over 30 years supporting people of all ages to improve their physical and mental wellbeing, from young people to older residents, and those living with complex health conditions.

Paul has given back tirelessly to the community, from fundraising for local causes and supporting grassroots talent, to offering free training sessions and advice when people needed it most.

Young Achiever of the Year Award winner 2026

Tommy Goodson

Tommy is an inspiring young person who is already making a real difference in his school and local community. He has created a whole-school digital advent calendar, designed mock election activities to help students engage with democracy, and even produced a community magazine celebrating local life. He has also raised awareness of environmental issues through posters, encouraging people to support wildlife and reduce light pollution.

Town or Parish Councillor of the Year winner 2026

Cllr Sybil (Tibby) Bunn

Tibby is at the heart of her community, dedicating countless hours to supporting residents and bringing people together. From running the village hall and organising events, to founding the much-loved ‘Spud Club’ which provides affordable meals and social connection, her impact is huge. She also volunteers at local landmarks, supports parish initiatives and helps residents access services, often going above and beyond, even providing transport to those who need it.

Environmental Champion of the Year winner 2026

George Waterman

George has shown outstanding commitment to protecting and improving the local environment. He leads the Diss Litter Picking Group, bringing residents together to care for their community, and volunteers extensively to enhance green spaces through planting, habitat creation and ecological management. He also plays a key role in projects such as the Diss Community Woodland, helping to ensure long-term environmental sustainability for future generations.

Healthy & Active Award winner 2026

Jamie Steward

Jamie is a passionate advocate for health and wellbeing, dedicating his time to supporting people of all ages across the community. He has played a key role in the refurbishment of Diss Skate Park, helping ensure young people have a safe, inclusive space to be active and connect. Alongside this, he volunteers at a weekly chair-based fitness class for older residents, providing not just physical activity but also friendship and encouragement. Jamie also supports mental wellbeing, offering guidance to those who need it and helping to create a more connected, supportive community.

Connecting Communities Award winner 2026

The Rainbow Tree

The Rainbow Tree provides vital support for children aged 4–16 who are experiencing grief, offering a safe, free and welcoming space for them to talk, connect and feel supported. By bringing families together in a rural community setting and providing guidance and coping tools, the group is helping young people navigate incredibly difficult times.

Volunteer of the Year Award winner 2026

Susan Heal

Susan has shown extraordinary dedication supporting people affected by Motor Neurone Disease for over a decade. She provides one-to-one support, leads local initiatives and works closely with services to improve support for families. Her efforts have helped create stronger partnerships across health and social care, ensuring people receive the help they need more quickly.

Community Organisation of the Year winner 2026

Pulham Youth Engagement Project

Pulham Youth Engagement Project provides a safe, inclusive space where young people can build confidence, develop social skills and feel part of a supportive community. Run by dedicated volunteers, the project offers activities, mentoring and opportunities such as Duke of Edinburgh placement, helping young people grow, feel valued and connect with others.

The Lifetime Achievement Award winner 2026

Dr Mary Fewster

Mary has dedicated decades to supporting her community, taking on countless volunteer roles across local organisations, heritage groups and the church. She leads and supports initiatives that keep community spaces, history and services thriving, from village hall activities to running a community shop and volunteering at Norwich Cathedral.
