Modern slavery and human trafficking (MSHT)

Tackling modern slavery in Broadland and South Norfolk

What is modern slavery?

Modern slavery is a serious crime that includes human trafficking, forced labour, domestic servitude, and sexual exploitation. Victims are often hidden in plain sight, working in unsafe conditions or living under coercion and fear of violence.

Our commitment

We are committed to identifying, disrupting, and preventing modern slavery in our communities. We work in partnership with police, immigration services, safeguarding teams, housing providers and voluntary sector organisations to protect victims and hold perpetrators accountable.

You might encounter modern slavery in:

  • Nail bars, hand car washes, construction sites
  • Domestic settings e.g. live-in help
  • County lines and criminal exploitation
  • Agricultural or food processing sectors

Spot the signs:

  • Poor living conditions
  • Reluctance to speak or seek help
  • Signs of physical abuse or fear
  • No access to personal documents
  • Ill-fitting or inappropriate clothing
  • Lack of personal protective equipment

What we are doing

  • We are a pro-active member of Norfolk Anti-Slavery Network (NASN)
  • Training frontline staff to identify and respond to exploitation
