Helping new and existing businesses to navigate through the red tape

The Business Regulatory Support Hub offers one dedicated and friendly point of contact to help businesses navigate through the regulatory landscape and key requirements that are an integral part of being a commercial success. This can be a challenging area due to the complicated and varying rules for different councils and for different types of businesses. Here in the Hub, we aim to smooth the path for you.

Getting the regulatory side of your business in order is important to get right if you want to inspire customer trust in what you do. Getting it wrong could mean you put the public at risk, attract negative publicity or even lead to enforcement action; these are pitfalls that can be avoided by tapping into good advice at an early stage.

The Business Regulatory Support Hub is open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and we welcome any questions.

How it works

When you call us, we will ask you some questions about your business and talk you through the detail you need about laws that might apply to your business, particularly where licensing and registration may be an essential trading requirement. This is also an opportunity to ask questions if there is anything you are unsure about.

There are sometimes further areas where we may be able to offer added help, for example, training courses or our Business Builder programme. We may also signpost you to other agencies which can offer useful advice and information.

Some examples of types of businesses and areas where we can offer advice and signposting include:

  • food and drink (cafes, takeaways, mobile caterers, off licences)
  • animal licensing (kennels, catteries, pet shops)
  • beauty industry (hairdressing, nail bars, plus special treatments like tattooing, skin piercing, electrolysis)
  • taxis (operators, private hire/hackney carriage vehicles or driver licensing)

Speaking to us can often help you to think about areas you might not have considered. If you are setting up a business and plan to operate it from home, you might need advice from planning about change of use, and you also need to learn about your responsibilities to dispose of your commercial waste and you should also think about the health and safety of yourself and anyone working with you or visiting your premises.

Whether you are a sole trader just starting out, or even an existing business looking to move to Broadland or South Norfolk, we are here to help you take your next exciting step in business and put you in contact with the right people to help you.
