Broadland: Compost giveaway is back for a third year

Compost giveaway for garden waste subscribers

Broadland District Council’s environmental partner Veolia will give away free bags of compost to 1,000 lucky garden waste customers to support residents making the most of their garden this spring.

Since launching an annual giveaway in 2022, Veolia has provided over 1,500 garden waste subscribers with a free bag of Multipurpose Pro-Grow compost for use in their garden.

This versatile multi-purpose compost is produced by Veolia, Broadland District Council’s environmental partner, using clippings and green waste collected from gardens across the UK. It is 100% peat-free, protecting peatlands which store high quantities of carbon and support wildlife. By using Pro-Grow, gardeners help to protect the environment while sowing seeds, transplanting seedlings or potting up containers.

Councillor Jan Davis, Broadland Portfolio Holder for Environmental Excellence said:

“Over 33,700 residents are currently making the most of our garden waste service, saving them time and money. If you can’t compost at home, having a garden waste bin is a lot easier and cheaper than driving back and forth to the recycling centre. The giveaway is an opportunity for us to say thank you to everyone in the district who is doing their bit to help make Broadland a greener, cleaner place to live”.

Duncan McBurney, Contract Manager for Veolia Broadland said:

“We are thrilled to give back to the community by gifting 1,000 bags of compost to garden waste subscribers. This giveaway demonstrates our dedication to be part of a circular economy solution transforming garden waste into compost to be used locally. Blooming gardens help to preserve biodiversity, which is a key part of ecological transformation. We hope the lucky winners will enjoy a fruitful growing season.”

Residents who have subscribed to the garden waste collection service prior to 1 April 2024 and have a current subscription can enter the giveaway by completing the online form via Broadland District Council’s website. The prize draw closes 17 April 2024 and distribution of the compost bags will begin in early June.
