Aspiring sports stars in Broadland and South Norfolk can now apply for a Sports Champion Grant to support them with the cost of training, equipment or competing as sport resumes over the coming months

Cllr. Justine Thomas, Member Champion for Sport for Broadland District Council said:

“We are proud to have offered Sports Grants to support rising sports stars for over 10 years. These grants will help athletes continue to compete at a high level and get back on track once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.”

Cllr. Yvonne Bendle, Portfolio Holder for Better Lives for South Norfolk Council said:

“Grassroots sports have been very badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. These grants will allow our districts sports stars and coaches to make the next step up in their sports career and fulfil their potential.”

The grants of up to £300 are open to athletes who are competing in their chosen sport at a regional level or higher. The grants are to help with outgoing costs for things such as coaching, competition entry fees, travel or physiotherapy.

Applications are also open for Community Coach Development bursaries. These funds of up to £300 are available for coaches working in the community to gain further qualifications so they can coach at a higher level, or to start their coaching career.

To be eligible, applicants must live in Broadland or South Norfolk and be competing in a discipline recognised by Sport England. Those who have received a Sports Champion Grant within the past two years are unable to apply.

If you would like to apply for a Sports Champion Grant or Community Coach Development Bursary the application form can be found on the Broadland District Council website or the South Norfolk Council website. Alternatively please contact sport@southnorfolkandbroadland.gov.uk or sport@southnorfolkandbroadland.gov.uk.

Applications are open until 31 March 2022, however funds are limited and subject to availability.
