Broadland and South Norfolk celebrate Ukrainian host families

Ukraine thank you event

Broadland District and South Norfolk Councils have celebrated the generosity and support of Ukrainian host families at a special event held at its new council offices in Broadland Business Park.

Almost 100 guests gathered for the celebration event on 26 October, providing a chance for hosts and Ukrainian families alike to chat about their experiences. Hosts across the two districts have been providing a safe haven and supporting people fleeing the war in Ukraine for almost two years.

Broadland Chairwoman Cllr Caroline Karimi-Ghovanlou and South Norfolk Vice Chairwoman Cllr Sharon Blundell each addressed attendees, speaking about the kindness, love and humility shown by hosts.

Trevor Holden, Managing Director of Broadland District and South Norfolk Councils, thanked the hosts, as well as the Councils’ Homes For Ukraine team for its hard work over the last 18 months.

Cllr Natasha Harpley, Broadland District Council’s Member for Communities and Housing, said:

“Our amazing hosts have been invaluable; not only have they provided housing, clothing, and toys, but they have welcomed Ukrainians with warmth, care and compassion. It’s wonderful to see the connections and lifelong friendships that have formed.”

Cllr Graham Minshull, South Norfolk Cabinet’s Member for Supporting People, said:

“This event gave us an opportunity to acknowledge the selflessness of local people who have opened their homes and to thank our fantastic Homes For Ukraine team, who have gone above and beyond to secure successful placements across both districts.”

The event included a video presentation featuring some of the districts’ Ukrainian guests, sharing their heartfelt appreciation and personal thanks to their hosts.
