Refresh your wardrobe for free with our Clothes Swap event

Clothes swap 29 April Roxley Halll

Norfolk residents are being invited to a free Clothes Swap on Saturday 29 April 2023 from 12pm to 3:30pm at Roxley Hall.

Did you know that the fashion industry is responsible for around 2 to 8% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions? The trend for ‘fast fashion’ has resulted in more than half of all items purchased being thrown away in less than a year and each year an estimated £140 million worth of clothing is sent to UK landfill, according to the charity WRAP.

But fashion doesn’t have to be harmful and if you’re looking to refresh your wardrobe this spring then there is a free, sustainable event taking place on Saturday 29 April to help you do this!

Norfolk residents are invited to bring along good quality clothes that they no longer wear and swap them for preloved items at a free Clothes Swap event organised by Veolia and supported by Broadland District Council.

Clothes swaps are a fun, inexpensive and environmentally friendly way to declutter your wardrobe and try out a new style. Taking place from 12pm at Roxley Hall, NR7 0QF, you will be able to donate up to 10 pieces of unwanted, adult-sized, good quality clothing which will earn you one token per item to spend later.

Between 2pm to 3:30pm, residents will then have the opportunity to come back and exchange their tokens for items to take home. Any surplus clothing from the event will be donated to our textile recycling partner for reuse so nothing will go to waste.

Please note this event is for good quality clothing only, so please only bring items that you would be happy giving to a friend.

Duncan McBurney, Contract Manager for Veolia Broadland said:

"By reusing items instead of throwing them away we’re not only preserving resources, which is key to our drive for ecological transformation, we’re aso helping local residents looking to save money and build a more sustainable community.

“We’re excited to hold this Clothes Swap and hope to see as many Norfolk residents as possible refreshing their wardrobes on the day.”

Items which will not be accepted as part of the clothes swap include: accessories (such as jewellery and bags), nightwear, swimwear, underwear garments, children’s items and shoes.

All clothing must be in good clean condition. Items that have shrunk, are stained or need repairing will be placed in a dedicated textile recycling station and will not count towards the token system. At the end of the event, all unclaimed items will be donated to our textile recycling partner and used for mattress fillers, car seat fillers or rags for wipers in the motor industry.
