What does becoming a Wellbeing Champion involve?

Becoming a Wellbeing Champion involves two things:

  1. Attending a free mental health training session
  1. Acting as a wellbeing champion for your town or village, offering support to residents when conversations naturally occur.

You can choose an appropriate free training course and date. Following the training, you should feel more able to recognise mental health concerns, feel confident to open up a conversation and be able to signpost to suitable support through the Councils' Help Hub and our partner organisations, as needed.

We want to highlight that we do not expect you to give any additional time to this role; these conversations will likely occur within your given role in the community i.e. if you are a hairdresser, group leader, or sociable member of the community. Additionally, we do not expect you to take on the role of a counsellor or diagnose any conditions. You are simply there for a low-level chat and to signpost as needed.

Becoming a wellbeing champion may be right for you if:

  • You are in a position to meet and engage with other people in the community
  • You feel happy to be known as a Wellbeing Champion and for people to come to you for a chat
  • You would like to learn what other services are available to recommend to family, friends and members of the community
  • You care about the mental wellbeing of the community around you

If you have already completed mental health training elsewhere and would like to become a part of our Wellbeing Network, please send us your certificate with your consent to add you to the Network and your address to send a Wellbeing information pack.
