South Norfolk: Shop local this Christmas and enjoy more free parking

South Norfolk Council is giving its residents a special Christmas gift to encourage more people to shop local.

Every Saturday in December the Council is giving shoppers an extra free hour in their Pay and Display car parks in the District’s market towns. That means instead of the usual one hour free, visitors will now have two. On all other days in December parking will be free after 4pm.

South Norfolk Council’s Cabinet Member for Stronger, Greener Economy, Cllr Lisa Overton-Neal, said:

“We want people to shop local, put money into the pockets of our local retailers, help them grow, create jobs for local people and encourage our high streets to thrive.

“We have some fantastic independent shops that have everything you need for a wonderful Christmas. Pick up some fabulous gifts, like jewellery, chocolates, craft kits, unique art and sculpture, books, games, bikes and toys from our Market Towns. Our retailers have a wealth of knowledge and can advise you on the best products for you, or who you’re buying for.

“Make your home look beautiful with unique decorations, tableware, wreathes, fresh flowers and festive plants and send some lovely Christmas Cards from our charity shops so you can help others this Christmas too.”

“Our butchers can guide you on the best way to roast your turkey and provide all the accompaniments too, such as pigs in blankets and stuffing meat. You can also pick up some lovely local fresh veg at the weekly markets and tasty Christmas puds and bakes, made here in Norfolk at our local bakeries.

“To make sure you sparkle this festive season, visit one of our local boutiques, or try one of the excellent second hand clothes shops, which will have you looking wonderful for less."

“We really have got everything for a fantastic festive season right here in South Norfolk and with two hours free parking, why go anywhere else?”
